Tips: Reduce your Energy Usage this Summer!

The summer Texas heat can be downright brutal this late in the season. But triple digits outside almost seem comfortable when you come home to a hot house. Having a good air conditioning system is absolutely critical! One thing that homeowners dread about the summer is the increase in energy usage that comes with running the AC more often. Here at Spencer Air Conditioning & Heating, we are dedicated to our customers’ satisfaction and we wanted to put together a few things that you can do to reduce energy usage during the summer months.
  • Use your fans – Keeping the air moving through your home with ceiling fans is a terrific way to help you feel cooler. While moving the air with fans won’t cool the air, it will keep the air moving over your skin, which can help you stay comfortable without running your AC.
  • Use your thermostats – You can use your thermostats to control the temperature of your home and, thus, the amount of energy that you use to cool your home. By setting the temperature of your home to about 78° F you could be able to reduce the amount of energy that you use.
  • Run your appliances during the evening – Simply running your dishwasher at night instead of during the day can save on electricity, gas, and water costs. Hopefully your bedroom is far enough away from your kitchen so the noise is not an issue.
  • Close your blinds – Heat energy from the sun can cause your home to heat up which makes your air conditioner have to work harder to cool your home. By closing your blinds you could be able to keep that heat out and give some relief to your AC system.
