Tax Break for a New Air Conditioner

If you have completed your taxes for this year and you’re hoping to get a little more back next year, consider an energy tax credit. The IRS has a tax credit in place for heating and cooling systems that might get some green back in your pocket. Install a relevant heating and cooling system by December 31, 2016. Save all of your receipts in certifications just in case they are needed later. You may qualify for up to a $300 credit for your central air conditioning system. This year your central air conditioner needs to meet the following to qualify: Split Systems: • SEER>= 16 • EER >= 13 • Package systems: • SEER >= 14 • EER >= 12 Always verify a product before you have it installed against the Energy Star guidelines on what heating and cooling systems are covered. It’s your safest bet for information on which kinds of systems and individual products get you the credit. At Spencer Air Conditioning and Heating we would love to help you save money and qualify for a tax credit.
