What is a Teal Pumpkin?

With Halloween only a few days away, you may have heard about a recent trend, the teal pumpkin. The Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) began an initiative for kids with food allergies and other food-related issues. More than 6 million children in the United States are diagnosed with food allergies and millions more have food intolerances, diabetes, or weight issues. The Teal Pumpkin Project is a way for every child to have a safe and fun Halloween. To participate purchase teal paint and sponge brushes and paint a pumpkin teal. This is a great time to let your kids help paint your pumpkin and talk with your kids about food allergies. Next purchase non-food treats from the Dollar Store or Target dollar bins. Great ideas include bubbles, noise makers, balls, bracelets, glow-in-the-dark sticks, pencils, notepads, and mini slinkies. Finally, share the idea with your friends and neighbors.
